Background

World Learning is a 78-year-old global non-profit organization operating international education and development programs in more than 70 countries worldwide. Through its network of field offices and subcontractors, World Learning – Capacity Building Services supports the U.S. Agency for International Development and U.S. Department of State in training, education, and capacity building with a wide array of services. Such services include: overall management of the programs, including conducting needs analyses; country training planning; procuring and managing U.S., third country, and home country training and education; participant and student selection, testing and processing; managing programs from the field; follow-up services; and small grants administration.

Opportunities & Responsibilities
The Community Connections Program under the World Learning – Capacity Building Services is currently seeking two undergraduate students with an interest in a 3-month or a semester-long internship to assist Program Associates and Program Officers in implementing public diplomacy programs for international participants, sponsored by the the U.S. Agency of International Development. The Program Intern may assist in performing research, administrative aspects of programs, filing, data entry, assembling orientation packets, creating program newsletters, social media and website development, and providing general program support.
This is an exciting opportunity for candidates who are looking to gain experience in international education and development and practical training and cultural exchange programs.

Interns will be assigned and share the following responsibilities and tasks:

  •  Provide administrative support to program teams
  • Assist with translation of social media blogs in English and Russian (Intern #1)
  • Assist in the maintenance of multilingual social media blogs and websites (Intern #2)
  • Assist with the preparation of publicity documents, brochures, newsletter, etc.
  •  Assist in the coordination of participant evaluations
  • Maintain participants’ files
  • Prepare participants tax forms
  • Assemble program orientation packets
  • Organize e-files
  • Data entry

Qualifications
Intern #1 – Intermediate to advanced fluency in Russian
Intern #2 – Web knowledge and familiarity with social media (blogs, e-publication, etc.)

  •  Pursuing a Bachelors degree
  • Interested in international affairs/education/development
  • Proven strong written and oral communication skills in English
  • Experience with living/studying/working abroad
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong multi-tasking skills and time management
  • Proficient in MS programs including Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, and PowerPoint
  • Good to advanced computer skills

Please note that this is a 3 month or 1 semester (subject for renewal) unpaid internship starting on January 10. Academic credit is available. Work days and hours are negotiable.
